Me: What was going on in this picture?
Dad: This picture was taken by a friend after I bought my first car in June/July 1961 few months after I arrived in Houston.
(pause)
Dad: Where did you get this picture from? Send me a copy after cleaning it. It appears to be out of focus.
Me: What kind of car was that anyway?
Dad: The car is Ford 1952. I paid $300 in 1962. A new car of the same model would have cost about $2500. A new Cadillac or Lincoln, the most expensive American cars would cost about $4-5,000.
Me: Who was your friend that took the picture?
Dad: Either M, who still lives in Houston (Galveston) or A who left US for England some time ago. Both were living in a one room shanty cabin behind our shanty one room hut at $30/month. Next door was a bar. We left after finishing a one year lease to move into another shanty. But there was no bar next door.
